medical indication and effects

Zolpidem is a 1999 approved drug which is used as a short-term treatment to cure insomnia. It's considered as a non-benzodiazepine preparation, which essentially means it will make you sleepy with a significant reduced risk of getting depended. It works a differently from benzodiazepine drugs like Valium, although it helps make you feel relaxed and drowsy. When a patient takes this medication, they should be able to fall into a restful sleep within minutes and wake up feeling refreshed the next morning.
Zoplidem has a quick onset (about 15 minutes) with a half time of 6-8 hours. The effects generally decreases after the first 3 hours which means, patients can use it the evening, but probably won't have any after-effects the next morning.

The following side effects are ordered by descending occurrence.
  • drowsiness, dizziness or tiredness

  • stuffy nose
  • dry mouth or sore throat
  • headache
