Doxycycline belongs to the group of tetracycline antibiotics and is used to treat bacterial infections in many different parts of the body. It is also used to treat pimples and abscesses that are caused by rosacea, or acne vulgaris. Doxycycline as delayed-release tablets are also used to prevent malaria and treat anthrax infection after possible exposure. Doxycycline and other antibiotics will not work for virus based infections like colds or flu.
