Propranolol is a medicine which is used alone or together with other medicines or to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and belongs to the group called beta-blockers. High blood pressure increases the workload of the heart and arteries. This could cause a sudden blockage of arteries which can cause several failures of the brain, heart, or kidney failure. Propranolol can also be used to treat severe chest pain, migraine headaches, or hypertrophic subaortic stenosis. Another indication is to treat irregular heartbeats, tremors, or pheochromocytoma. It may also be used to reduce the risk of death in patients who have heart attacks.
